Produced as part of the master’s thesis A Bricolage of Found Digital Files: On Conservation and Copy as Creative Gestures. Hochschule für Künste Bremen (University of the Arts).

Sinopsis: A site which once served as a slaughterhouse has become an environment to preserve the life of Brazilian cinema. Until the first fire arrived. And then another, and another. Hundreds of negatives lost due to a policy that negates preservation actions. The distant relationship between the Cinematheque of São Paulo, public neglect, and the fire are rescued in a film whose very function is to preserve the memory of this Cinematheque.

MOVING IMAGES

TV TUPI (Cinemateca Brasileira). Newsreels broadcasted by TV Tupi, the first television station in Brazil (September 1950 - July 1980).

Among the procedures carried out by the Cinemateca Brasileira are the treatment of 16mm film on which the newsreels were shot, the digitalization of the moving images, the cataloging that allows research by several terms and subjects, and the availability on the internet. This set of actions allows the use of TV Tupi's collection as a valuable source of research and entertainment, and as an image bank of a unique historical collection.
